Every price in Cookie Tapper comes from one line of code. The engine charges Math.ceil of the base cost multiplied by 1.15 raised to the number you already own. Read that formula before you buy anything and the whole upgrade list turns into arithmetic.
What the Cookie Tapper cost curve does
Each duplicate of a building costs 15 percent more than the last. Grandmas cost 100, then 115, then 133, then 153 cookies. The income of each copy stays flat, so payback time climbs 15 percent per purchase.
Divide the first-copy price by the cookies per second it adds and you get these payback times in seconds. Grandma 100. Farm 137.5. Cursor 150. Mine 255.3. Factory 500. Bank 1000. Temple 2564. Wizard Tower 7500.
Two facts follow. Grandma is the best first purchase in the game by a wide margin. Wizard Tower is the worst, because you wait 7500 seconds for the first one to pay for itself.
A buy order you can compute
Use one rule every time you can spend cookies. Divide the current price of each option by the CPS it adds, then buy the lowest number you can afford. Run that rule from a fresh save and the opening comes out as follows.
1. Grandma, ratio 100 seconds.
2. Grandma, ratio 115 seconds.
3. Grandma, ratio 133 seconds.
4. Farm, ratio 137.5 seconds.
5. Cursor, ratio 150 seconds.
6. Grandma, ratio 153 seconds.
The switch point is exact. A seventh Grandma costs 266 cookies and pays back in 266 seconds. The first Mine pays back in 255.3 seconds. Once you own six Grandmas, the Mine wins and the Grandma queue stops being the default.
The rule never changes. Only the ratios do, and you can recompute them from the displayed price in one division.
Click power stops paying early
The click upgrade costs 50 times 2.5 to the power of the levels you own. The sequence runs 50, 125, 313, 782, 1954 cookies. Each level adds exactly 1 to click power, so the value depends on how fast you tap.
At a sustained 5 clicks per second, one level adds 5 CPS. Payback then runs 10 seconds, 25 seconds, 63 seconds, 156 seconds, 391 seconds across the first five levels. Compare that with the building list. Level one and two beat almost everything. Level four loses to a fresh Mine. Stop buying click power once the cost passes about 800 cookies and redirect everything into buildings.
Golden cookies are worth 15 minutes each
A golden cookie spawns 30 to 90 seconds after the last one resolves and stays on screen for 10 seconds. It appears in the top 40 percent of the 540 by 960 canvas with a 40 pixel tap radius.
The reward is a coin flip. Half the time you get a frenzy, 2x CPS for 30 seconds. The other half you get an instant payout equal to the larger of 10 percent of your bank or 900 times your CPS.
Do the comparison. A frenzy adds 30 seconds of extra income. The instant floor is 900 seconds of income, which is 15 minutes. The instant branch is at least 30 times larger than the frenzy branch at any CPS above zero. You never choose between them, so the correct play is uniform. Click every golden cookie within its 10 second window and treat the frenzy as a consolation prize.
The prestige threshold is far away
Prestige points equal the floor of the square root of total cookies baked divided by 1e12. Each point adds 1 percent to all production through the multiplier 1 plus points times 0.01.
The first point arrives at 1 trillion total baked. Doubling all production requires 100 points, which means 10 quadrillion total baked. The prestige button is irrelevant to a session measured in minutes. Treat it as a long-term goal and keep playing the ratio rule.
Cookie Tapper checklist
- [ ] Before each purchase, divide current price by CPS added and buy the lowest ratio.
- [ ] Open with Grandma buys, then first Farm, then first Cursor.
- [ ] Switch from Grandma number seven to the first Mine at 255 seconds versus 266 seconds.
- [ ] Cap click power around level four, cost near 800 cookies.
- [ ] Watch the top 40 percent of the screen from second 30 onward for the golden cookie.
- [ ] Save with the S key before closing, because autosave runs only every 30 seconds.
- [ ] Ignore prestige until total baked approaches 1 trillion.
The honest downside. Production accrues only while the page runs, so closing the tab stops all income and the save stores no offline catch-up. The 15 percent curve also guarantees that every building lane eventually loses to the next unlocked tier, so no purchase order stays optimal for long. Open [Cookie Tapper](/en/cookie-clicker), record your CPS at minute five and minute ten under the ratio rule, and compare those numbers against your usual buy order. If your ratio-ordered run does not beat it, send both sequences, because one of us is misreading the curve.
