Guide
Gladiator Quest RPG is a single-player role-playing game set in the Roman Empire. You create a gladiator, fight turn-based battles, collect gear, and grow stronger level by level. The game runs in your browser and stores your progress in your browser's localStorage, so you can close the tab and pick up again from the main menu. Character creation takes a minute. You choose a name of up to 16 characters and one of 20 avatars. Every gladiator starts at level 1 with 100 HP, 150 gold, and a value of 5 in all seven stats. You shape your build afterward through training, equipment, and talents. Each of the seven stats has a clear job. Strength sets your damage range. Defense reduces the damage you take. Dexterity raises your dodge chance. Endurance adds 3 maximum HP per point. Constitution reduces incoming damage further. Charisma increases the gold you earn from fights, and Intelligence increases the experience you earn. Every level-up also raises your HP, Strength, Defense, Dexterity, and Endurance on its own, and those gains grow as your level rises. Combat is turn-based. On your turn you choose Attack, Defend, a skill, or a potion from your inventory. Skills unlock as you level. Power Strike and First Aid are available at level 1, and Titan Smash arrives at level 60. Fireball, Shield Bash, Battle Cry, Quick Heal, Piercing Arrow, Lightning Strike, and Divine Blessing fill the levels in between. Each skill has a cooldown counted in turns, so you decide which one to use and when. Battle Cry makes your next attack deal 50 percent more damage, so follow it with your strongest hit. If you prefer to watch, turn on auto-battle. The game then picks actions for you at 1x, 2x, or 5x speed, or resolves the fight instantly. On the Automation screen you set priority rules, such as using a potion when your HP drops below a value or using a skill as soon as one is ready. You can also let the game move you to the next zone once you win more than 95 percent of your recent fights. The menu splits the city into three sections. General holds your overview, quests, gods, stats, talents, prestige, achievements, bestiary, and automation settings. The village holds the Training Grounds, the Market, your inventory, and the Tavern. The combat section holds regular fights, the dungeon, boss fights, the arena, and expeditions. At the Training Grounds you spend gold to raise any of the seven stats by one point. The price grows with the stat's current value, so a stat at 20 costs far more to train than a stat at 5. The Market sells weapons, shields, helms, armor, gloves, boots, rings, necklaces, and potions. It lists items up to five levels above yours and shows how each one compares to the item you have equipped. The game has 79 items across five tiers, and your inventory holds 20 of them. You can sell anything you no longer need. The Tavern restores your HP to full for 5 gold per level. Regular fights match you with enemies close to your level, from the Training Dummy at level 1 to the Abyssal Titan at level 80. The dungeon uses a slightly tougher level range. Boss fights let you challenge bosses up to 10 levels above you, from the Cave Rat King to Titanus. Bosses have more HP and hit harder, but they pay more gold and experience and drop items more often. A lost fight costs you no progress. Your HP drops to 20 percent of its maximum, so a visit to the Tavern usually comes next. Expeditions are multi-stage runs through three regions. Grimwood Forest opens at level 10, Misty Mountains at level 25, and Volcanic Depths at level 45. Each region has four stages and ends with a boss. The bosses are the Treant Guardian, the Storm Giant, and the Vulcanus Avatar. Your HP carries over between stages, so you manage health and potions across the whole run. Clearing all four stages pays bonus gold and experience. Quests are eight one-time fights, from Rat Extermination at level 1 to Titan's Challenge at level 45. Each one pays gold and experience, and most also give an item. The arena matches you with computer-controlled gladiators near your level. Before each fight you see the opponent's HP, gold pool, honor rank, and equipment. A win earns 25 honor and plunders part of the opponent's gold pool. A loss costs 15 honor. Honor ranks run from Novice to Legendary, and higher ranks improve your chance of looting an item from the plunder. On the Gods screen you choose one deity for a lasting bonus. Mars adds damage, Minerva adds experience, Merkur adds gold, Vulcanus adds critical hit chance, Apollo adds healing, and Diana adds dodge chance. You can switch gods at any time, so pick the one that fits your current goal. Every level-up gives you one talent point. The talent tree has 30 talents in three branches. Wrath improves damage and critical hits. Fortitude improves defense, healing, and survival. Cunning improves gold, loot, and experience. A talent reset costs half of your current gold. From level 40 you can prestige. Prestige resets your character and awards Glory Points based on the total experience you have earned. You spend Glory Points on permanent bonuses to damage, gold, experience, HP, critical chance, dodge, drop rate, or starting level. Each new run moves faster than the one before. Achievements and the bestiary give you long-term goals. The game tracks 55 achievements, and many of them add small permanent stat bonuses. The bestiary records the enemies you defeat and the items they drop, and completing a zone in it adds more stat bonuses. When you come back after a break, the game calculates offline progress for up to 24 hours. It simulates fights against your auto-battle target at reduced efficiency, and a welcome-back screen lists the fights, gold, experience, items, and levels you gained. Choose a target you can beat reliably before you close the tab. Your save lives in the browser you play in, and clearing site data deletes it. To back it up or move it to another device, use Export Save on the main menu to download a JSON file, then use Import Save to load it. Gladiator Quest runs on any device with a modern browser and needs no download, account, or payment. Start with a balanced build, clear the early quests, and work toward Grimwood Forest at level 10.
